Komani Lake offers one of the most beautiful and picturesque journeys you can imagine. The lake was formed on the course of the Drini river, with the construction of the Komani hydropower plant dam in 1979. The Komani dam is one of the highest dams in Europe with a height of 133 m and a length of 290 m.

The lake is not only an important economic source for the production of electricity, but also serves as a transport route (until 2010, the only road to Kosovo passed here), fishing, fish breeding and above all as a tourist source. The trip by boat or ferry, in addition to offering a stunning panorama, also serves as a gateway to the heart of the Albanian Alps.

Between the two extremities of the lake, Komani and Fierza, there are regular lines of ferries and boats, almost during all the year that transport cars, goods and many tourists who visit, the river of Shala, the valley of Valbona, Curraj i Epërm or just to experience the pleasure of traveling to Komani Lake.

The river follows the path formed by it, very often in narrow gorges and with high slopes that bring in mind the Norwegian fjords. For an unforgettable experience, it is advisable to travel along the river in small boats to stop in different places of rare beauty, such as the Cave of Shala and Kaurri Cave, the island of Peace or the estuaries of rivers of Daica, Berisha, Merturi and above all the mouth of the Shala River. If you follow the course of the Shala River upstream, in a few kilometers you will reach one of the most beautiful destinations of the Albanian Alps, where the emerald-colored water, the white-gravel shores, the green hills and the hospitality of the people offer a unique and unforgettable experience.
